Faktenchecker App
About the Project
Fact checker designed to help users verify medical facts on social media using AI. My team and I won the Audience Award at the Hanseatic Hackathon 2025. The app is intended not only to verify facts but also to evaluate sources and their credibility. The prototype was developed in ~24 hours during the hackathon. The case was provided by Techniker Krankenkasse and was an exciting challenge as it dealt with a serious topic that is currently very important. Shown here is the Figma prototype as we envision the app. On the backend, we trained our own AI model, based on the internal TH model "Kira," which we use to verify the facts. The user would submit a video link to the app; the AI converts the spoken text and captions into text and then checks the content for correctness using medical sources. The app would then evaluate the sources and their credibility and verify the accuracy of the content.

Future plans included having the official TK account (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) post a comment with the assessment under the video after a successful check. This way, not every user has to access the app again. Furthermore, we hope for state-level enforcement that compels Instagram and others to natively integrate the fact-checker into their apps, thereby reducing the spread of fake news.
